Kanye West made a choice. He decided to release The Life of Pablo, his self-touted best album of all time, on Tidal. Exclusively.
You can’t listen to West’s latest through any other platform… legally. So, in lieu of subscribing to potentially multiple music streaming services, consumers have turned to piracy. TorrentFreak initially projected more than 500,000 downloads, and that number has clearly only gone up since then.
Tidal subscriptions start at $9.99, though a high-fidelity tier sits at $19.99. Tidal supposedly pays better royalty amounts than platforms like Spotify.
Now, HollywoodLife has it that West is considering legal action against The Pirate Bay for listing the torrent for The Life of Pablo. Here’s what the source told that site.
“Kanye is going to meet with his legal team to discuss the possibilities of starting legal action against torrent site Pirate Bay…”
Several artists have gone after The Pirate Bay, though all have ultimately failed. We’ll see where West lands.
