The Blade Runner sequel everyone has been waiting for finally has a release date: Jan. 12, 2018. Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford will star, the latter of whom will reprise his role as Rick Deckard. Denis Villeneuve is slated to direct.
So far the Jan. 12, 2018 date puts Blade Runner 2 in a pretty quiet weekend of releases, except for one very small fact: Star Wars: Episode VIII will have come out about a month before, and that’s a very big deal. Will the residual excitement from Disney’s hottest new property have an effect on Harrison Ford’s new movie? Probably.
Blade Runner 2 will pick up several decades after the 1982 original, which told the story of a “blade runner” who was tasked with terminating four replicants. According to Deadline, Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, will return to help with screenwriting duties.
