Do we really need 6GB of RAM in our smartphones? A crazy new rumor that surfaced on Weibo recently – and that doesn’t mean much considering anyone can post anything there, suggests that the Galaxy Note 6 might ship with that much RAM.
The only reason we’re really covering the rumor is that it’s just wild – wild to think that a smartphone OEM might actually pack 6GB of RAM in a smartphone this year. Seems like just last year we were talking about flagships with 3GB of RAM and now we’re about to double that, up to a point where a smartphone might pack as much memory as the desktop computer I’m writing this article from.
What kind of pocket computer needs that sort of RAM? It seems like this might be some sort of multitasking powerhouse if Samsung does really think the Galaxy Note 6 needs that much to keep the experience running smooth. That sketchy part aside, the other specs named by the Weibo poster include a 5.8-inch 2450 x 1440-pixel display, 64GB or 128GB of storage and a 12MP camera with “Super O.I.S Plus.” That camera may get its introduction in the Galaxy S7 next week during Mobile World Congress.
Take this rumor for what it is – probably mostly speculation. We can dream, though, right?
