Film Fondue: Heimdall’s role in Thor 3 to be much bigger

by Brandon Russell | February 13, 2016February 13, 2016 8:00 am PDT

Following a glut of trailers during Super Bowl weekend, we got a healthy dose of trailer rumors, and confirmations, led by the release of a new Batman v Superman trailer. If you had any doubt Ben Affleck couldn’t play Batman, those doubts should be put to rest. I can see now why Warner Bros. reportedly want him to star in his own solo trilogy.

In addition, we learned a new Harry Potter book is on the way, Star Wars: Episode VIII filming has begun and Aladdin is somehow connected to Beauty and the Beast. I know, crazy. Finally, HBO released a huge gallery of new photos from Game of Thrones season 6, which is premiering in just a few short months.

Filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has begun, and director James Gunn has shared a photo from the set.

Check out the Ecto-2 from Ghostbusters

You’ve seen the cast, along with the Ecto-1. Now get a look at the Ecto-2, a motorcycle with some ghost-catching parts attached to the back. This is the vehicle Chris Hemsworth’s character is going to drive, as we saw from the Lego set that was revealed recently.

Equals trailer

Check out this mesmerizing first trailer for Equals, a movie about the suppression of love and the opposition to conformity. It stars Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart, and is set for a release this summer. That Chromatics song that accompanies the trailer is too good. It’s all about what’s not said that makes an impact here.

Netflix’s Flaked gets a trailer

Will Arnett stars as Chip, a compulsive liar and recovering alcoholic who falls for a girl his best friend also happens to like. It doesn’t look ha-ha funny, but more poignant and emotional and “real,” whatever that means. It premieres on Netflix on March 11.

The Purge: Election Year trailer

The Purge is the kind of film that features a premise so ridiculous it actually works. As a straight up action movie, The Purge: Anarchy (and the movie before it) was entertaining, and Election Year looks no different. Frank Grillo returns in the lead role. The Purge: Election Year hits theaters on July 4.

Heimdall in Thor: Ragnarok

Latino Review claims to have an exclusive rumor about the fate of Heimdall. The report says Hela will take over Asgard, banish Thor, destroy his hammer, and then kill Heimdall. Apparently Heimdall’s death happens “earlier than you expect.” But that’s not all. The character will reportedly come back later with a vengeance. [LatinoReview]

Jackie Earle Haley in AMC’s Preacher

AMC has confirmed that Jackie Earle Haley has signed on as Odin Quincannon, and will appear in six episodes. For anyone who has read the comics, you’ll know all about Quincannon’s story. Expect Preacher to air on AMC this summer. [HollywoodReporter]

Ewan McGregor in Star Wars: Episode VIII?

Ean McGregor’s Obi Wan had the tiniest of roles in The Force Awakens, and it sounds like he could feature in Episode VIII, too. A new rumor claims McGregor will appear in the role of Obi Wan as a Force Ghost, maybe to talk to Rey and Luke and tell them to lay the smack down on Kylo Ren.

The Lobster

One word: Weird. But good weird. The kind of captivating and charming weird that grabs a hold of you and doesn’t let go. The kind of weird that could make The Lobster a classic despite its quirkiness. The Lobster comes out on March 11.

Captain America: Civil War TV spot asks you to pick a side

Marvel on Sunday released a new TV spot for Captain America: Civil War, further emphasizing the fractured relationship between the Avengers team. If you saw the first Civil War trailer, you will have already seen who was on which side. Today’s TV spot gives us a better look at the dueling teams, along with some brief new footage […]

10 Cloverfield Lane TV spot is frantic and terrifying

10 Cloverfield Lane is one of this year’s more mysterious movies, having been announced only a few weeks ago. The first trailer suggested it was a monster movie, and the newest TV spot all but confirms that… kind of. We don’t actually get a look at any monsters, but there’s a nice howl at the […]

Matt Damon is back in Jason Bourne

It never seemed right to release a Bourne movie without Matt Damon, and Universal Pictures is looking to set that right with Jason Bourne. The teaser is all about establishing the fact that, yes, Damon is back, a little older and wiser than he was when we last left him in The Bourne Ultimatum. He’s still being […]

Get your first look at Krang in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 looks exactly like the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, just with new bad guys and more groan-inducing action. Krang makes an appearance, so that’s fun. But not even he can save what looks like what will be another critical disaster. I mean, I’m sure it’ll make boat loads of money, as […]

Watch the world burn in new Independence Day: Resurgence teaser

In 1996, the first trailer for Independence Day ran before Super Bowl 30, and today we got a trailer for the sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. This movie is kind of flying under the radar—there’s no Will Smith, and, to be fair, the sequel is coming out TWENTY YEARS after the first one. That said, I’m […]

It’s not looking good for the X-Men in X-Men: Apocalypse

It’s not looking good for Mystique and her crew of X-Men in the latest X-Men: Apocalypse teaser. There’s a lot of destruction, and plenty of bombastic shouting. Magneto is still a tortured soul, seemingly growing stronger by the minute. Meanwhile, Apocalypse has collected his Four Horseman to completely wipe out humanity. I just want to […]

You can now stream the original Pokémon movie online for free

Pokémon: The First Movie is available officially for free streaming right now. The Pokémon Company has released the original flick on their site, alongside their growing collection of aging episodes. This movie marks the entrance of Mewtwo, if my memory serves me correctly. It’s not all that wonderful of an anime, but it is a […]

Insane fan theory connects Disney’s Aladdin to Beauty and the Beast

Follow the bread crumbs, my friends, and you’ll connect the points between Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. At least, that’s what this ridiculous fan theory does. Tumblr user PetiteTiaras (beautiful) did the dirty work here. Their post took off like a rocket, and we’ve been reading this thing all over the place today. In Beauty and the […]

Star Wars: Episode VIII filming has begun!

Although the movie’s release was pushed back by a few months, filming is already underway for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Disney CEO Bob Iger this week revealed cameras for the much-anticipated sequel have begun rolling, which can only mean one thing: We can start to expect new Star Wars rumors up the wazoo. Star Wars: The […]

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be released in book form this summer

Officially confirmed in 2015, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two-part West End stage play that’s scheduled to open this summer at the Palace Theatre in London, England. It’s a big deal for longtime Harry Potter fans, and extends the story following the conclusion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. But, because […]

The Walking Dead mid-season premiere – Watch the first 4 minutes right now

Oh boy. When The Walking Dead took its mid-season break last year, audiences were treated to a quick look at a dangerous group of bikers acting on behalf of Negan, one of the comic’s most vile villains. Just a few days ahead of the show’s return, and AMC has released an extended look at this encounter, […]

Why the red suit? Deadpool sequel is already being planned

Deadpool almost didn’t exist, but a sequel is alread being planned. The embargoes for reviews lifted earlier this week, and for the most part they’re pretty positive. The main takeaway? Deadpool is a raunchy, childish and predictable movie, but absolutely hilarious, and a lot of that has to do with the performance from Ryan Reynolds, […]

Batman kicks all sorts of ass in new Batman v Superman trailer

Up until now, Ben Affleck’s Batman has been portrayed as someone who is angry, reckless and a little sad. This newest trailer, the final one for Batman v Superman before its release at the end of March, also shows that even though he’s getting older, he can still more than hold his own, even against […]

Game of Thrones season 6: Check out this huge gallery of new photos

Games of Thrones season 6 is still a few months away, but HBO just dumped a huge gallery online, giving fans a revealing look at what’s to come. Is that Bran Stark standing on his own two legs? Sure looks like it. While I’m not going to spoil any major plot points, I will discuss […]

Ever wonder what it’s like to be an action hero? Wonder no more, because Hardcore Henry is here to offer an unprecedented cinematic experience like no other. Shot entirely from the perspective of the main character, Henry, the film blends action, sci-fi and drama into a one of the wildest movies you’ll ever see. Hopefully […]

The short video shows our heroes defending Townsville from a new enemy who doesn’t put up much of a fight. […]

“Silicon Valley” season 3 trailer released, this show just keeps getting better

In Silicon Valley‘s first official trailer for its third season, T.J. Miller does something a lot of people have probably dreamed of: he kicks one of those creepy Google robotic dogs right in its metal face. Even better, the robot is dressed up like a reindeer, a direct reference to the bizarre Christmas-themed video released by Google late […]
