BMW on Wednesday introduced its new BMW B7 Alpina, a take on the BMW 750i but supercharged with parts from Alpina. It’s as if BMW gave the keys to Alpina and said “Here, soup this thing up.” A nice mix of a sport’s cars speed and a sedan’s spacious cabin.
The 600hp BMW B7 Alpina offers a 4.4-liter V-8 engine capable of propelling the car from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds, faster than a lot of sports cars on the market. BMW said a lot of the car’s performance boils down to its “specially developed turbochargers” inside of the V-8 engine.
“The Bi-Turbo charging system comprises two specially developed turbochargers positioned in the V of the 8-cylinder engine,” the automaker explained. “These feature optimized twin-scroll turbocharger housings and compressor wheels with enlarged inlet and outlet diameters. In combination with appropriately sized turbines this configuration ensures very effective use of exhaust gas energy even at low engine speeds. The result is a fast power build-up and more torque at low engine speeds for overall exceptional engine response. 494 lb-ft of torque is available at 2000 rpm.”
Other features include BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system that has been tweaked by Alpina, a LAVALINA leather interior with Timeless Piano lacquer or classic Myrtle Luxury wood, an LED instrument panel and exclusive BMW Alpina Blue or BMW Alpina Green color finishes.
BMW hasn’t announced pricing but said the car will launch in the fall of this year. Time to cash out those 401ks.
