Xiaomi Mi5 leaked photos revealed a golden iPhone clone

We’ve already seen plenty of leaked pictures of the Mi5, but the latest images of Xiaomi’s next flagship seems to reveal some troubling new details. Based on photos of an alleged Mi5 frame, it looks like the company’s taken some direct inspiration from Apple’s latest phone designs.

The golden Mi5 chassis appears to feature the same rounded corners as the iPhone 6s. It also sports a pair of antenna bands in back which closely resemble designs used by both Apple and HTC in the past. Finally, the bottom edge of the device matches up pretty perfectly in its placement of the speaker grill, charging port and headphone jack.

This won’t be the first time Xiaomi gets called out for copying Apple. The company has taken some pretty clear inspiration from Cupertino in the past. Apple design chief Jony Ive even called out Xiaomi for “theft” back in 2014.

We were originally expecting the Mi5 to feature sharper edges and a curved back. However, these new pictures suggest Xiaomi could opt for a flat slate design instead. We won’t know for sure until the device is officially revealed next month.

The Mi5 is also expected to pack a Snapdragon 820 processor, a 16-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter, a 3600mAh battery and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It could also come in two different variants: 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, or a more expensive 4GB and 128GB model.

Xiaomi is eventually expected to expand into the U.S., but the Mi5 will likely only be available in China and a few other countries where the company currently operates.
