Based on the trailers we’ve seen for Batman v Superman, director Zack Snyder is laying out a very clear plot: Batman and Superman fight, reconcile their differences when Doomsday appears, and then save the day with the help of Wonder Woman. Whether the trio of superheroes defeats the supervillain is unclear, but it looks like Doomsday isn’t the only major player we’ll see when the movies hit theaters in March.
According to a new image published by Empire, it sure looks like Darkseid will be introduced and eventually become the main protagonist in the Justice League film. In the image, we get a never-before-seen look at the post-apocalyptic landscape from Batman’s nightmares, along with a gigantic Omega symbol burned into the ground. In the comics, Darkseid uses the Omega Force as his source of power; the reference here is clear as day.
However, the image alone doesn’t tell us how prominent the character will be in Batman v Superman, but it sure looks like he’ll have a looming presence.
I wouldn’t expect Darkseid to appear in the film—at least not for any substantial length of time. He could be saved for a tag scene, or perhaps the omega symbol shows up in Batman’s dream and that’s it; his presence could simply be more of an Easter Egg for fans.
In addition to the possibility of Darkseid, a separate report claimed Bizarro might appear in the film as well, which means the Justice League will have their hands full once Batman v Superman hits.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has released another TV spot, giving us a longer look at an exchange between Bruce Wayne and Alfred.
“He has the power to wipe out the entire human race, and if we believe there is even a 1 percent chance he is our enemy we have to take it as an absolute certainty—we have to destroy him,” Wayne says to an incredulous Alfred.
So Batman doesn’t even know whether or not Superman wants to completely destroy the human race? Sure doesn’t sound like a smart fight to pick, but given what happened to the people Bruce Wayne cared about when Superman was fighting Zod, you can’t really blame him for being upset.
Batman v Superman is set for a March 25, 2016 release.
