SEGA 3D Classics Collection to be released in April, just in case you don’t own Altered Beast already

SEGA 3D Classics

All week, SEGA had been teasing news that fans of the classics would love. In the end, we’ll be getting Sega 3D Classics Collection, a collection of Genesis and arcade classics redone in 3D by emulation gurus, M2.

While normally I would be thrilled at such news, none of the games particularly excite me. For one, I already own a few of them since they are available individually on the eShop already. The new additions are an interesting proposition, but not the ones I was hoping for. That’s just part of the game, I guess.

Two of the new games, Power Drift and Puyo Puyo 2, have never been released in the States before, so they’ll be making a grand debut in the English-speaking world. Two more, Maze Walker and Fantasy Zone 2: The Tears of Opa-Opa, have not been released individually yet.

See the full list of games below:

  • Power Drift (Arcade)
  • Puyo Puyo 2 (Arcade)
  • Maze Walker (Master System)
  • Fantasy Zone 2: The Tears of Opa-Opa (Master System)
  • Fantasy Zone 2 W (Master System/Arcade)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)
  • Thunder Blade (Arcade)
  • Galaxy Force 2 (Arcade)
  • Altered Beast (Genesis)

No Ristar. No Shining Force. No Landstalker or Phantasy Star. Instead, we get the chance to buy Altered Beast for the 70th time. How many compilations is this going to turn up in, SEGA? And of course it includes a Sonic game or else it wouldn’t sell at all.

Oh well. Most of the games in here are solid, and we get nifty box art out of it. If anything, at least the inclusion Altered Beast allows that bear to exist in the bottom corner, making it totally worth it.

Sega 3D Classics Collection launches on April 26 in North America for $29.99.
