We’ve seen a host of classic video game characters and locations get a new look through Unreal Engine 4, but I don’t think any have been more impressive than this. Metal Gear Solid fan Airam Hernandez has been grinding away at the ultimate remake, bringing the original PlayStation classic into the modern age with Unreal Engine 4.
Hernandez has dubbed the remake Shadow Moses, after the island Snake’s mission takes place on, and its progress can be followed on its official Facebook page.
Sounds like a blast, but there’s just one problem… Konami has not yet given its blessing to the project, and in all likelihood, it won’t. Both it and the franchise are in too fragile of a state these days, and it probably won’t take long to have the project shut down.
Hernandez realizes this, and he has posted a statement on it:
Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later we will need their full permission.
We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come.
We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only to get it shut down.
Please, respect this decision.
Good luck with that. Konami has shut down higher profile fan-remakes in the past, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up. In the meantime, at least we get a sweet trailer out of it.
