Following a busy week at CES at the beginning of January, the world of entertainment seemed to kick into overdrive. We had rumors covering the entire spectrum, too—and that’s the fun of it. It would be mighty boring if the Internet was devoid of leaked reports and speculation. That goes for any industry, not just entertainment.
Below are the rumors and reports that you may have missed.
Jumanji remake gets a director
Whether we want it or not, the Jumanji remake is happening—and Deadline says Jake Kasdan has been chosen to direct. Kasdan has previously directed movies such as New Girl, Bad Teacher, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Again, why is this being remade? A sequel might suffice, but you can’t top the 1995 classic. Captain America: Civil War
In a fresh interview with Collider, the Russo brothers revealed their approach to Civil War, saying they’re breaking up the more somber tone with humor from characters like Ant-Man and Spider-Man:
They’re not tied to the central arc of the movie with the same motivation as the other characters, so they can be lighter. I think there are a lot of lighter moments because there are much darker moments as well. We did have to work very hard at that. [Collider]
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 script is finished
On Facebook, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed he has finished writing the sequel’s script.
“I always make very tiny changes along the way, but this is essentially the final draft,” Gunn said.
Additionally, Gunn teased that there are some actors lined up to play roles that haven’t yet been revealed.
According to director Ridley Scott, he’s aiming for a “pretty hard R” rating with Alien: Covenant, saying he’s hoping to top the scariest moments from the original Alien. [ComingSoon]
Wonder Woman’s mother has been cast
Several reports claim Connie Nielsen has been picked to play Hippolyta, otherwise known as the mother of Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. has not commented on the rumors. [Variety]
Ryan Coogler to direct Black Panther
Ryan Coogler, who rose to fame with 2013’s Fruitvale Station, and directed last year’s Creed, has been chosen to direct Black Panther. The film stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, and is scheduled for a Feb. 16, 2018 release. [Marvel]
Maz Kanata kicks butt in deleted scene
In one deleted scene revealed by the VFX supervisors for The Force Awakens, it’s revealed that Maz Kanata was shown using her Force powers, but it wound up getting cut.
There was a particular part of a scene that never made it, where they go underneath the castle and they’re going into the underground passageways, and stormtroopers are coming down the stairs and Max uses her powers to collapse the ceiling. [Collider]
No Red Hulk in Civil War
According to the Russo brothers, General Ross will not turn into the Red Hulk in Civil War.
There always a chance at Marvel that you can see anything. But there, uh, let’s say… there is no Red Hulk in Civil War. General Ross has a big presence in Civil War. He’s a character who was ham-fisted in his approach in The Incredible Hulk… and that’s probably a polite way to put it. And I think he’s learned from his over-aggressiveness in that movie and he’s become more of a politician. [CBR]
Here’s what we know about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: It’s going to take place before A New Hope, and it’s going to focus on a small group of Rebel fighters who attempt to steal the Death Star plans. Other than that, we don’t know much, and so far Disney been careful to keep […]
In the middle of night filmgoers were hit with a surprise trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, the spiritual successor to 2008’s Cloverfield. J.J. Abrams loves his secrets, but keeping an entire film production a secret is a trick few people can pull off. Somehow Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, did just that with 10 Cloverfield […]
The teasers for The Secret Life of Pets have been pretty tame thus far, giving us a fun look at what our pets probably do when we’re away. But turns out the film will be so much more than just cats and dogs and birds sitting around in empty apartments. A new trailer shows that […]
How cool would it be if the costume for Spider-Man was revealed before Captain America: Civil War hits theaters? While Marvel is unlikely to reveal the character’s final appearance before the movie comes out in May, merchandise unveiled by Merchoid could give us an idea of what the Web Slinger will look like. Here’s what Merchoid […]
Remember way, way back when director George Miller said he was finished with Mad Max? Well, according to Miller, that’s actually not true, and he’d absolutely love to do another one—just not anytime soon. Earlier this week, an interview with the director hinted he was fed up with the arduous filming process, suggesting Mad Max movies are physically […]
A brand new Batman v Superman clip has been revealed, shedding more light on that infamous “do you bleed?” scene. I have to say, I’ve sided with Superman this entire time, as the earlier trailers made him appear unfairly accused of wanting to destroy mankind. But after seeing today’s clip, maybe Batman has a right […]
With both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad all but wrapped up, Warner Bros. has begun setting its sights on another big film in its cinematic universe: Aquaman. That means filling out its cast, and a new report claims Amber Heard (Zombieland, The Danish Girl) is in contention to play Mera, the love interest of […]
Following the most recent Batman v Superman trailer, many people were upset the footage seemingly spoiled the entire movie. You had a conflict, an epic showdown, and a plot twist with the introduction of Doomsday. Why see the movie when it comes out in March when you can just watch the trailer and fill in the […]
Other than the fact that Rey is Force sensitive, The Force Awakens didn’t reveal much about the character’s past. She was left on Jakku when she was little, we know that. But how she got there, and whether or not she’s connected to the Skywalker family wasn’t touched upon. According to Colin Trevorrow, who is […]
The lineup of Avengers we’ve seen save the world from aliens and evil robots might not be around when Infinity War hits theaters. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already said fans will be “shocked” when the two-part series comes out, but never did we expect them to take it to such an extreme. In […]

Netflix might dominate as the king of originals in 2016, but don’t discount Hulu just yet. The service has released the first trailer for 11.22.63, an upcoming thriller based on the book by Stephen King, and damned if I’m not hooked already. If you’re into mysteries and conspiracy theories, you’re going to love this one. The […]
