In the middle of night filmgoers were hit with a surprise trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, the spiritual successor to 2008’s Cloverfield.
J.J. Abrams loves his secrets, but keeping an entire film production a secret is a trick few people can pull off. Somehow Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, did just that with 10 Cloverfield Lane. Not a word has been heard about this film. This may have been easier to do than most films because the trailer suggests it takes place in just one set and the movie features only three actors: John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr.
Speaking with Collider, Abrams gave one of his first comments about the film simply saying, “The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
If you head over to 10CloverfieldLane.com, the first poster is up and it states “Monsters Come in Many Forms.” While it sounds as though this film may share the same universe as the original Cloverfield, it’s going to be a very different story.
I already have a couple theories from the trailer, but they are not anything more than that at this point.
10 Cloverfield Lane will hit theaters on March 11, 2016.
