Avengers: Infinity War to feature new team of heroes, may replace existing ones

The lineup of Avengers we’ve seen save the world from aliens and evil robots might not be around when Infinity War hits theaters. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already said fans will be “shocked” when the two-part series comes out, but never did we expect them to take it to such an extreme.

In an interview at the Wizard World New Orleans convention this past weekend, Joe Russo told a crowd that some of Marvel’s “secondary characters” could get the spotlight in Infinity War, meaning there might not be any room for the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor.

“Which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven’t had their own ‘A’ story arc to this point?” Joe Russo said. “I think you’ll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers.”

He added that some new Avengers will become prominent, while others might not even be around anymore (i.e. they’re going to die). In Age of Ultron, Marvel left a few breadcrumbs suggesting some of our favorite characters won’t survive the battle with Thanos in Infinity War, so it’s no surprise to hear the Russo brothers are already scheming which characters will take their places.

Nearly 70 new characters are apparently up for consideration, according to the Russo brothers, which means we are going to see a lot of new faces between Civil War (in May) and the first part of Avengers: Infinity War, which comes out in 2018.

According to a recent rumor, we could see a prominent member of the Avengers team killed off as soon as Captain America: Civil War, which means audiences should start getting used to the idea of a new lineup.
