Square Enix has confirmed that the Final Fantasy Adventure remake, renamed Adventures of Mana, will be getting an “overseas” release on smartphones. The Japanese Twitter account is where it chose to break the news.

What normally should be a cause for celebration though has been met with a bit of worry and scorn. While Square Enix has confirmed an English release of this remake, the English website lacks any indication that it will be coming to the PS Vita. This runs in contrast to the Japanese version, which has PlayStation branding on its site.
It’s been quite a while since Square Enix brought a game in English to the Vita, so it’s not like this wasn’t expected. If you want to play this latest Mana game, you’re going to have to do so on your smartphone or tablet.
It’s a shame, but I won’t be losing sleep over it. The original Game Boy release is still a fine little game that stands up on its own right. What makes me worry though is if Square Enix will continue this cold-shoulder attitude towards the Vita when it comes time to possibly localize SaGa: Scarlet Grace. There are no other options for that game, meaning we might never be seeing it unless Square Enix changes its mind on the Vita.
No release date has been set yet, but Adventures of Mana will be released for iOS and Android.
