Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi hasn’t been with Square Enix for over a decade now, but he is cruising to new successes with the help of his mobile hit, Terra Battle. If you haven’t heard yet, I’m in love with this game and think it’s his best since forming his new studio, Mistwalker. Even better than his major console titles.
With 2016 in full gear now, Sakaguchi has promised further support for Terra Battle, expanding the game by a five further chapters and collaborating with legendary director/writer Yasumi Matsuno, of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre fame, for the new scenario.
In addition to supporting his older hit, Sakaguchi will also be dedicating a part of his brain to creating an all-new title. He claims to have a “new worldview” for the project, and all he has provided as far as hints go is this image.
..subtle. At least Sakaguchi hasn’t lost his sense of humor.
There is still no word on if he is going to follow through on the console version of Terra Battle, which he promised to make should the game hit 2 million downloads. Currently at 2.3 million, he claims he might have bitten off a lot more than he could chew. Oops. That’s fine with me, because I only need Terra Battle on mobile to squeeze in a few minutes here and there.
Still, there is no denying that the world, art, characters, and music of Terra Battle would make an excellent console style RPG. Please don’t lose sight of that, Sakaguchi.
