Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL delivers Windows 10 Mobile on a budget

Microsoft isn’t the only company making Windows 10 Mobile smartphones anymore. At CES 2016 in Las Vegas this week, Alcatel OneTouch announced the Fierce XL, a 5.5-inch device that delivers Microsoft’s latest mobile platform at a pretty price.

The Fierce XL is what you would expect a budget smartphone to be. It has an attractive design made out of plastic, and specifications that ensure a good user experience without any fancy bells and whistles. Of course, the main draw here is Windows 10 Mobile, which is still hard to come by right now.

Powering that software is a quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor clocked at 1.1GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot that lets you add another 32GB. The Fierce XL also packs a 5.5-inch 720p display, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,500mAh battery.

This device certainly won’t give the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL much to worry about, then, but for those looking to get into Windows 10 Mobile without breaking the bank — or at least try out Microsoft’s latest software before making a bigger investment — it seems ideal.

The Fierce XL will be a T-Mobile exclusive in the U.S., and you’ll be able to get it either this month or next, for just $140 off-contract. It will also be available for zero upfront at a cost of $5.94 a month over 24 months.
