Get your credit cards ready! Oculus Rift pre-orders will begin on January 6 at 8 a.m. Pacific. The Facebook-owned firm also promised to reveal more details on its first consumer-ready virtual reality headset at the same time.
For now the exact price and release date are still a mystery. The Oculus Rift is expected to launch within the first three months of 2016, though the company’s Oculus Touch controller won’t arrive until the second half of the year. Oculus also needs to nail the price if it wants virtual reality to really take off.
Rounding out an exciting day for virtual reality fans, Oculus founder Palmer Lucky is set to answer questions on Wednesday during a Reddit AMA interview set for 6 p.m. Pacific. By then we should know the basic details, though hopefully he’ll have even more exciting news to share.
The Oculus Rift is set to come bundled with two games designed specifically for VR. Lucky’s Tale is a cartoony platformer. EVE: Valkyrie is a multiplayer space combat game set in the same world as the popular multiplayer game Eve Online.
We can’t wait to try out the latest version of Oculus Rift for ourselves. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we have a headset of our own to play with.
