Hideo Kojima may not be making any more Metal Gear titles, but Konami sure isn’t done with the lucrative property. In fact, they’re already getting ready to make a new one.
“Now recruiting “NEW METAL GEAR” Development Staff,” reads the header on the official page, leaving no room for interpretation on just what they’re planning. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be Metal Gear Match 3 or Metal Gear Pachinko, either, as the posting specifically mentions experience in “high-end game development, planning, etc.” among the desired qualifications.
Konami was always going to create a new Metal Gear title of some kind. It’s surprising to see them recruiting so brazenly so soon considering the current feeling of the fan community toward the developer, and it’s surprising that they apparently intend it to be some kind of traditional gameplay experience as the company is shifting toward mobile.
How fans will ultimately respond to the game once it’s announced remains to be seen. It seems much of the Kojima Productions team is still on at Konami, so some of what made Metal Gear Solid V so good might still be present, but it’s hard to say at this point.
