Moto X 2016 picture gives us first peak at next year’s phone

The Moto X Pure Edition is still a pretty young device. Motorola unveiled its latest flagship phone back in July, but a newly leaked photo may already reveal next year’s upgraded model.

Published by French site NoWhereElse, the photo appears to show the backside of a new Motorola smartphone. You can see a big primary camera up top along with a shiny Motorola logo underneath. At the bottom of the device are two rows of pretty big speaker grills, suggesting the new Moto X could get pretty loud.

That camera is particularly interesting. It’s bigger than anything Motorola’s used in recent memory, and also appears to stick out a bit from the rest of the device. The current Moto X Pure Edition already takes pretty good photos, but there’s always room for improvement.

Finally, the new phone could be Motorola’s first all-metal device. The design is a pretty big departure from recent models, swapping that soft curved plastic back for a flat industrial design. It looks pretty great, though if you were already a fan of the Moto X this could be an unwelcome change.

Of course, it’s possible this image could be a fake, and even if it is real it’s still just an early prototype. Motorola will likely change the design before it reveals its new phones next summer, but it’s always interesting to see what the company is up to behind the scenes.
