The System Shock series has been confirmed for a long overdue return to the video game scene with a brand new entry for the first time in 16 years. The countdown clock over at Otherside Entertainment’s website has wound itself down, and System Shock 3‘s teaser site is live and official.
Of course, you won’t find too much there. So far, the site has a survey and links for fans so they can directly receive updates through their preferred social media outlets. As for game content, no screenshots or videos exist as of yet. Just a digital face, which has become the running theme of the series, and a creepy audio clip which is bound to terrify fans of the first two games.
The System Shock games are cult-hits in the PC shooter world. They generated a bit of buzz back when they were released, but not until it was found out that BioShock was heavily inspired by them did they re-enter the mainstream gaming knowledge. In recent years, the first two games have been retooled and remastered through GOG and Steam, so be sure to check them out while you’re waiting for the oft-requested follow up.
System Shock 3 is in development at Otherside Entertainment, and no platforms have been confirmed yet. It’s safe to guess that at least a PC version will make its way out, but we’ll have to wait and find out about consoles.
