Star Trek Beyond trailer sees the crew get separated

The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond has been released, right on the eve of the release of that other Star movie coming out this week. What’s that one called again? No matter, because all people will be talking about is the new trailer for Star Trek Beyond—and I don’t think it will be for the right reasons. Just watch it, and you’ll see what I mean.

Set to the music of The Beastie Boys, the trailer shows Captain Kirk and his crew get separated right after the U.S.S. Enterprise gets annihilated. And then there are motorcycles, explosions, and Simon Pegg narrowly escaping a fall off a cliff. We also get our first glimpse of Sofia Boutella’s character, as well as Idris Elba’s villain; it looks to me like Boutella’s character is going to steal this movie, just as she did in Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Star Trek Beyond is being directed by Justin Lin, who is most famous for his work with the Fast & Furious franchise. Replace Dom, Hobbs, and the rest of the Fast crew with Kirk and Spock, and you have what looks like Fast & Furious… IN SPACE. What’s not to love? Check out the trailer above.

Star Trek Beyond is currently scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release.
