EA Sports UFC 2 has its second cover athlete: Conor McGregor.
McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo during UFC 194, taking not only the featherweight title but the spot on the game’s cover as well.
It was nice of EA to select the winner of the match, rather than announcing one of them beforehand and dooming them to lose as part of the EA Sports curse.
Call the curse silly if you want, but all three UFC cover athletes – Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson and Ronda Rousey – have all experienced losses or something similarly dramatic shortly after their cover announcement. Madden cover athletes have often been affected as well.
I mean, okay, sure, these people are in highly physical competitions that put their bodies at risk and dozens of other athletes are injured each year without being on the cover of a video game. Be all scientific if you want. Or start counting McGregor’s days at the top. Your choice.
EA Sports UFC 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is expected to hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.
