Google gives new Chromecast buyers $20 in Play Store credit

Google is giving new Chromecast buyers in the United States $20 in Play Store credit until January 2, 2o16. The giveaway effectively reduced the cost of the device to just $15, and gets you up and running with fresh movies, TV shows, music, and more.

Google often gives away Play Store credit for Chromecast buyers, but its latest promotion — which appears to be strictly for new Chromecast owners — runs from today, December 13, to January 2. It’s also available on the duo Chromecast deal, which lets you buy two dongles for $55 ($15 off).

This particular deal is only available to customers in the U.S., but Google is offering a similar promotion to those in the U.K., which gets you £20 (approx. $30) in Play Store credit when you pick up a new dongle between November 15 and January 15.

You can use your free credit to purchase any of the digital goods you’ll find in the Play Store, including movies, music, TV shows, books, apps, games, and even magazines and newspapers. You can then stream that content — the audiovisual stuff, at least — to your HDTV via your new Chromecast.

At just $35, the incredibly versatile Chromecast is already an excellent holiday gift. With $20 in Play Store credit thrown in free, it’s even better!
