Nintendo gets into the holiday spirit with interactive Mario

Christmas and Nintendo… two interconnected staples of my childhood that I can never separate. For the first six years of my life, I could only play an NES at my grandmother’s house since my parents rightfully foresaw the ruin that video games would bring to my life. I went there pretty often, but I have especially strong memories of the Christmas season with all of my cousins huddled around a solid game of Contra or LifeForce.

After I moved to the barren land known as Wyoming, many thousands of miles from my beloved family and machine, I opened up my very first NES console on a happy Christmas morning. I was too young, and possibly lost in the countryside, to know that the Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis were already available, but I didn’t care. I had a Nintendo, and life was good.

This holiday season, Nintendo is spreading the love to young holiday shoppers all around the country with this fun little interactive video of Mario. Following it, children are gifted a wonderful surprise as well… presents! I mean, who doesn’t love presents?

Alas, my childhood is over and the magic of Christmas morning is more of a relief than anything, but it’s still great to see that Nintendo is making Christmas special for kids all these years later. Almost makes me want to cry…

You can check out the schedule and availability of this panel on the official website. If you’re a Nintendomania brat with kids of his or her own now, why not give your kids some similar happy memories?

Are you getting any Nintendo products for Christmas? I wish I could, but I already bought all of the games available for review purposes. Maybe Santa is going to treat me to a New Nintendo 3DS this year… maybe.
