New Apple Remote app with Siri controls coming in 2016

Apple’s latest tvOS 9.1 update that rolled out yesterday adds plenty of new features, including the ability to finally search for music using Siri, and take advantage of the Remote iOS application. The app is really starting to show its age, though, and thankfully an update has already been promised.

“We’re working on a new Apple TV remote app that will give you the full functionality of the Siri Remote on your iPhone,” Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services Eddy Cue said in a recent interview with BuzzFeed. “We’re hoping to ship that in the first half of next year.”

That means you should be able to use your phone to speak queries into the Apple TV for things like finding a movie or TV show, asking the weather and more. Those functions are built into the physical Apple Remote, but the app should make it easier to do everything right from your phone.
