Here’s what Fallout 4 would look like with Fallout 1’s camera

Despite the overwhelming, resounding success of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, there’s still a vocal group of fans who enjoyed the original games – Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics – and wish for a return to form.

While that still isn’t happening, Reddit user yttriumtyclief (try saying that one three times fast) stumbled across the next best thing.

In a post to the Fallout subreddit, the user wrote that they’d made a new save of Fallout 4 with which to take some gorgeous screenshots and improve the documentation in the Fallout wiki.

“As I was playing around with the camera angles and other camera settings, I got inspired to take some isometric screenshots of what Fallout 4 might be like if it was made by Black Isle,” the user wrote, referring to the studio that developed Fallout 2.

The user said later in the thread that the screenshots were taken using some edits to the game’s INI file using the regular third person camera.

“It falls apart once you try to enter combat, though, or really do anything beside walking around outside. It also won’t work indoors simply because of how the 3D environments are created.”

Modders have made some pretty incredible stuff over the years, so it’s plausible that someone could make an isometric game out of Fallout 4, and it’d honestly be pretty cool. These, for now, are just a tease of what could’ve been.
