CD Projekt RED is in good graces these days as one of the most popular studios in video gaming and sporting one of the most popular games of the year in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Not bad for a company with less than ten years of professional development experience.
Well, what if it were to carry this success over into next year as well? That’s what the company might be hoping for with its next highly-anticipated RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. A recent report at Gamereactor Germany claims that the company is aiming for a release in late 2016, less than a year away. The project was first announced way back in 2012, so that’s quite long enough for a development cycle, even if it’s not as long as Final Fantasy XV’s.
The report is to be taken with a bit of skepticism though since it cites an “unnamed source” as the source of its information. The source also claims that Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for the PC, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are “more than likely.” He also drops mention of a possible exclusivity battle between Sony and Microsoft.
CD Projekt RED’s official statement has always been that it is aiming for a full release of information in 2017, so who knows if this report is entirely legit? However, seeing how the company is riding on some pretty tall laurels these days, why not strike while the iron is hot and get your next game out there?
