Amazon on Monday introduced a new version of the Fire HD 8 tablet. It’s called the “Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition” and sports some features that Amazon says are catered to folks who specifically want to spend most of their time reading on the tablet. And, unlike a Kindle, you can always switch over to using Amazon’s array of tablet apps.
The Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition features the latest Fire OS 5 “Bellini” software, which means it already has some of the more compelling reader-friendly options such as “Blue Shade” which softens the screen’s temperature so that it’s easier on the eyes while reading. Additionally, the Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition comes with a year of Kindle Unlimited, which allows you to read as much of the 1 million books in that library as you want, and a “limited edition” leather cover that ships in a “rustic brown” color.
The bundle would normally costs about $349.86 if purchased separately, Amazon says, but it’s available for just $249.99 starting today. The Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition will ship beginning December 9, which means it should be in your hands by Christmas.
