Will the Defenders join the Avengers in Infinity War?

Marvel fans don’t only have big Hollywood blockbusters to turn to, but TV shows on Netflix and cable. And with everything leading up to one big Infinity War showdown, you’d think all of these separate arms are being primed to converge into a single entity. Turns out that could happen, though the difficulty of juggling the different content could be Marvel’s downfall.

When discussing the possibility of The Defenders appearing onscreen with Captain America and Iron Man, the Russo Brothers, who are directing Infinity War: Part 1 and Infinity War: Part 2 (and also Captain America: Civil War), hinted that it’s a possibility, but acknowledged how difficult it would be to pull off.

“When we start to serialize the telling of stories it’s difficult,” the brothers said. “You have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by other […] As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible.”

Because shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones technically exist outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the probability of them appearing on the big screen is pretty low. But given what happened with Spider-Man, a deal could potentially happen. Now, whether or not Marvel would utilize them for the big screen remains to be seen. We already have enough characters to keep track of, and adding even more might be too much to handle.

At the very least, characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones will form a mini Avengers team in a future Netflix series, so that might be the best it gets aside from teaming up with Cap and Hulk.
