Samsung rolls out Gear S2 update with new features, faces, improvements

Samsung has begun rolling out a new Gear S2 software update that brings a whole bunch of new features, watch faces, and performance improvements. The update also adds support for emojis in the Gear S2’s keyboard, and fixes some early teething troubles for greater stability.

The most exciting additions in this update are the apps and watch faces; users can now enjoy the ESPN app with live scores, News Briefing, and a World Clock — as well as a new faces designed by Mendini. Samsung has also added a search function in the Contacts app, new screen timeout settings, and support for emojis.

Gear S2 users will also notice a notification indicator on the watch face — similar to that on Apple Watch — and a new alert that lets you know when your device has lost its Bluetooth connection with your smartphone. This should be particularly useful for those who often leave the house without their smartphone.

This update weighs in at just under 89MB, and comes with version number R32XXU2BOKK. You can install it via the Gear Manager app on your smartphone, but you’ll need to ensure you’ve updated to the latest version of the app first, otherwise you may not see it.
