Screenshot Saturday: Xenoblade Chronicles X is out, and we did it!

Nintendo finally rolled out Xenoblade Chronicles X this past Thursday. It’s a massive game that brings a lot of prestige to the under-represented RPG genre on the Wii U console, and all you Nintendo fans who only read about grand adventures in Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 can stop drooling and finally set out on your own massive quest.

An entire planet awaits, so get out there! Explore, discover, find marvelous waterfalls, deadly monsters, and maybe the occasional dose of storyline if that’s your thing. The future of humanity is yours to shape and mold on this foreign world.

And with that, Xenoblade Chronicles X marks another important moment of the year… that’s right! The end of the holiday rush! The Game Awards are over, Christmas is upon us, and as I look at a list of game releases for 2015, Thursday marked the last major release on a home console in 2015! The grind is over! We did it! We survived 2015!

Nothing but smooth sailing from now until the early spring once March sees a small uptick in big releases. What does this mean for us? Well, we can finally start enjoying games at our own pace again. No more pushing through sandboxes as hard as possible, leaving stones unturned and caves unexplored. No more skipping a dialogue scene here or there because of an embargo date that should be met.

It’s hard to justify playing a video game for personal pleasure if it’s your career, especially during the months of September until November. That goes triple for JRPG fans who rarely have 40-60 free hours to dedicate to a single game professionally, let alone one they just want to play because “it’s fun.”

However, I always take a bit of time in December and January to really vegetate and just try to enjoy video games again. No critical eye, no looking for flaws or wondering how to put my feelings in words. Just playing, releasing the cynicisms and getting back in touch with my I love my favorite hobby in the first place… it’s a welcome relief to be able to do that.

And I couldn’t be happier with the scheduling of 2015 either. Just as it the holiday rush comes to an end, Just Cause 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X, two of my most anticipated games of the year are there waiting for me. My reward, my life in between normal articles for the next two months. See you on the other side!
