The Xperia Z5 still isn’t officially available in the U.S., but a new report out of China suggests Sony could be hard at work on next year’s flagship phone. Actually, make that phones, because the company apparently has five different models in the pipeline.
Sony’s full lineup will allegedly start with 4-inch Xperia Z6 Mini and a slightly bigger 4.6-inch Xperia Z6 Compact. In the middle, there’s the standard 5.2-inch Xperia Z6, followed by the 5.8-inch Xperia Z6 Plus. Finally, the company may also release a super-sized Xperia Z6 Ultra with a 6.4-inch display.
The entire lineup will apparently make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chip, except for the Xperia Z6 Mini which gets a Snapdragon 620 instead. We’re guessing the rest of the specs will be similarly high-end across the board, though it sounds like the 4-inch Xperia could sacrifice power to offer a lower price.
The leak also suggests Sony will include a pressure sensitive display with the Xperia Z6 and Z6 Plus. That should help the Japanese giant stay competitive as other Android devices adopt similar features to challenge Apple’s 3D Touch.
Of course this is still just a rumor and it could be a while before Sony reveals it new flagship lineup. If the company sticks to a year-long cycle, it won’t reveal anything until September 2016, though it’s possible we might see a few new phones sooner than that.
