Metal Gear Solid V’s award just went to a PR person instead of its director

If you ask Konami, Metal Gear Solid V director Hideo Kojima is on vacation right now. Or something. Maybe he just went to go buy cigarettes. He’s definitely coming back, though.

Last night, Sony held its annual PlayStation Awards ceremony in Tokyo. According to Yahoo! News JapanMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won two awards – the User’s Choice Award and the Platinum Prize.

Kotaku reports, however, that it wasn’t Kojima on stage accepting the award. Rather, Konami’s head of PR was the one that accepted the award, standing on stage alongside creators like Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii to accept the award.

Meanwhile, over here, there are rumors flying around that Kojima will appear at the Game Awards tonight, with showrunner Geoff Keighley saying that he’s been talking to Kojima and that he hopes “to have clarity soon.”
