Galaxy S6 Android 6.0 update leak reveals a modern design

Samsung’s done a pretty good job toning down its TouchWiz software over the past few years to let Google’s own design shine through. Now it looks like the company’s latest Android update could go even further.

A fresh leak out of China shows a Galaxy S6 update with a flattened UI that seems to embrace Google’s Material Design wholeheartedly. The original Weibo post appears to be down, but the screenshots have already spread online. The tipster also notes this is an early build, and not the final release.

You can see the difference right on the homescreen. All the icons have been completely flattened, without a single digital shadow in sight. The same style seems to extend into various other menus and pages, including a redesigned pull down menu with a fresh coat of white paint.

We still don’t know when the Galaxy S6 will actually make the jump to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Rumor has it the update should hit this month, so hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer. Samsung is actually expected to upgrade the newer Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge Plus first, before moving on to its smaller flagship phones and eventually the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.
