In our holiday gift guides I picked the Volvo XC90 as my car of choice. I think I might change my mind. Volvo unveiled the S90 luxury sedan on Wednesday, and it’s a pretty svelte looking car. While pricing wasn’t discussed, the company confirmed there will be three options available, including a supercharged T6 model, a turbocharged T5 option and a T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid version. The latter, at least in my experience with the XC90, provides 407HP but also offers a green-energy option, which I dig.
The S90 will sit at the top of Volvo’s line of luxury sedans, filling the empty space above the S60. It features the Sensus Connect touchscreen inside the cabin, the same display that’s available on the XC90, and can be outfitted with the same autonomous driving capabilities that should make it one of the safest cars on the road. That’s all part of Volvo’s Vision 2020, its goal to make sure that nobody is killed or seriously injured in its cars by 2020.
“The S90 has taken a big step forward in terms of driving dynamics, performance and ride. We have completely redesigned the Volvo driving experience from the ground up to deliver a sense of precision, engaging control and comfort,” said Volvo’s senior vice president of research and development Dr. Peter Mertens.
I’m definitely digging the front of the car, not sure I feel the same way about the trunk. Maybe we’ll get to drive one soon. No word on pricing yet, that I can find anyhow, but it won’t be cheap.
