Google Hangouts finally useful on Apple Watch

by Todd Haselton | December 1, 2015December 1, 2015 10:00 am PST

I didn’t really expect this anytime soon, I guess, but I’m happy it’s here. Google recently updated its Hangouts application for iOS to now support the Apple Watch. Yes, notifications have always worked just fine – I rely on them daily for work – but now I can actually respond to them. So, if someone shoots me a message and says “Hey, Todd, get your butt to the coffee room we’ve having cake!” I can respond.

Of course, I can’t respond with anything unique, like “Save me the chocolate cake with the strawberry frosting and sprinkles… and tell Jacob to stop drinking so much Mountain Dew.” Instead, I’m limited to canned responses and emoji. But, hey, at least I can let the other side know¬†I got the message and that I’ll be in the coffee room for cake as soon as my Vans will take me there.

The update also includes the option to respond to friends right from the notification on your iPhone. You can find it in the iTunes App Store now.
