Although the week was much shorter here in the U.S. because of Thanksgiving, there was actually quite a bit of news, rumors and, of course, that trailer for Captain America: Civil War. On that note, we actually did a breakdown of what’s actually going on in the trailer; if that was TL;DR for you, the movie will essentially see the Avengers politically divided due to the “Sokovia Accords.”
Meanwhile, there was plenty more Star Wars news, while HBO revealed when to expect Game of Thrones season 6 to air. And did the image HBO released with the announcement reveal a big spoiler? (If you know what I’m talking about, it won’t come as much of a surprise. Jon Snow is one of the show’s most popular characters, and the way season 5 ended sure left a lot of fans with a bitter taste in their mouths.
The crazy thing to me right now is how close we are to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Only three more weeks and we’ll find out whether or not the wait was worth it. I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt right now and say it’s going to rock. But you never know based on a few trailers and TV spots.
Official Wonder Woman movie picture
Batman v Superman hasn’t been released, but already Warner Bros. is teasing the release of Wonder Woman. The character, who is being played by Gal Gadot, is set to appear in next year’s superhero showdown, but her solo flick will shed more light on the character’s origins. Along with the picture, the full cast was also revealed, and it includes Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremmer and Lucy Davis.
Minions mini-movie is a delight
The Minions will never stop being adorable, and in the latest mini-movie, they’re on their A game. I wasn’t a huge fan of the full-length Minions feature, and this short story shows why they’re so much better suited in small doses. That being said, I have no doubts we’ll see another Minions movie—or at least a Despicable Me with a heavy Minions presence. Until that happens, it’s back to basic in “The Competition.”
Captain Phasma appears in new photo
Much of the attention has been on characters Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. But let’s not forget another new character will be introduced come Dec. 18, and that’s Captain Phasma. It doesn’t sound like Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie), will have an enormous role in The Force Awakens, but they sure made a point to make sure she stands out with her chrome armor. Check out the cool picture below. Chances are she’ll be surrounded by death and destruction for the majority of the film.
Tremors TV reboot staring Kevin Bacon
I’m dead serious when I say Tremors is an excellent, entertaining, funny, amazing and thrilling piece of Hollywood history. It’s one of those rare gems that is much better than it has any right to be, and doesn’t try to over-complicate things. Just a simple movie with monsters and a town trying to survive. Hopefully the TV show retains the original movie’s spirit, and doesn’t try and make it too serious. [HollywoodReporter]
Fantastic Four sequel probably won’t happen
To the surprise of nobody, it looks like 20th Century Fox has pulled whatever plans it had for a Fantastic Four sequel. Everyone knows by now that the Fantastic Four reboot was an unmitigated disaster, so barring some kind of miracle, we all pretty much expected Fox to re-think sequel plans. That being said, we could see these characters appear in another movie in an ensemble movie, or perhaps the rights will be handed back to Marvel. [DarkHorizons]
Star Wars rated PG-13
Citing “sci-fi action violence,” Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA. Only one other Star Wars film has been rated PG-13, and that was Revenge of the Sith, which is considered to be the prequel trilogy’s best offering. Judging by the trailers and TV sports we’ve seen from The Force Awakens, it’s easy to see why such a rating was given. There are a lot of explosions and people getting shot, and I’m sure that’s not all we’ll see come Dec. 18.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV spot is all about the Dark Side
Disney has released yet another Star Wars TV spot, and this time it focuses on the exploits of Kylo Ren, the franchise’s new baddie. What’s cool about it is not only do we get a tiny bit of new footage, but we get to hear Supreme Leader Snoke talk a bit more. Spooky! Check it out to hear his voice, and for a better look at Starkiller Base.
Why has Luke Skywalker been withheld from Star Wars trailers and marketing? J.J. Abrams refuses to tell us, which means we’re left to speculate about the character’s fate. There have been numerous rumors about his whereabouts—some say he’s hiding in a dark corner of the galaxy, while others believe he’s Kylo Ren. But did anyone […]
A new scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens aired last night during the American Music Awards. The clip checked in at a “whopping” 15 seconds in length, but it still managed to be good. Better than the prequels, even. I said it, call the cops. In the scene we see Finn and Rey escaping what I […]
The finale of Game of Thrones season 5 leave a bad taste in your mouth? Well, several huge billboards, popping up in New York and Los Angeles, might finally confirm the return of one of the show’s most beloved characters. If you haven’t seen Game of Thrones, I suggest watching it immediately. This post will […]
If you had the choice, would you choose evil and hatred on the Dark Side? Or would you choose virtue and kindness on the Light? You may not be Force sensitive, but to help celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Google is making it easy to pick a side. Choose wisely: your […]
What’s worse than sitting at the DMV? What about sitting at a DMV with a workforce comprised of sloths? Actually, after seeing this trailer for Zootopia, I’m not so sure the humans at my local DMV are any faster than good old Flash in the footage above. We’ve already seen a tiny bit of footage […]
While movies like The Avengers, Ant-Man and the like show the fun side of superheroism — the escape, the power fantasy, the drama — Marvel’s TV shows are becoming the place to really go to get an earthier side of the comic book experience. Daredevil was a fast favorite for me as it took the Marvel universe out of the clouds and brought it down to earth. I don’t need everything to be ultra-gritty and realistic, but that show was a nice change of pace from the movies; it gave the overall Marvel universe another, and much needed, dimension.
Jessica Jones takes things a step further.
It’s been a while since our first look at The CW’s teaser for Legends of Tomorrow, but finally we have our first official trailer. In it, we get a mix of old and new footage, which is setup to lay out what fans can expect from this time-traveling series. Want to see funky outfits and […]
Oh, no big deal, just actor Mark Hamill casually dropping spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on his Twitter account. It’s not like we’ve been waiting for this movie for the better part of a decade. No, just go ahead and pour out your biggest secrets so we have nothing left to hold onto […]
Amazon has released the list of TV shows and movies being added to Prime next month, and if you were hoping this year would end with a bang, you’re going to be very disappointed. There are a few obvious standouts—Interstellar and the second season of Transparent. But, otherwise, Amazon’s December catalog will be rather drab, […]
Your favorite monthly list has been released, and it includes several originals you may want to check out (and some you probably won’t). Now, I’m not encouraging you to watch a new Adam Sandler movie, but I’m not going to stop you either. It may be good for a few laughs—or maybe it’ll be one […]
Although we’ve already seen several pictures from the Doctor Strange set, Marvel on Tuesday finally announced production on the film is underway. With the announcement, the studio has also revealed the movie’s official cast list, along with a synopsis. If you were expecting Doctor Strange to be one of Marvel’s weirder films in the MCU, […]
Captain America: Civil War‘s debut trailer has finally arrived, and it’s a doozy. It’s clear in the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War that the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron have had a huge impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When you see a giant book entitled “Sokovia Accords,” you know the world has […]
In our frenzied excitement for next year’s Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, we forget that Warner Bros. is also planning an Aquaman movie, which is set for a July 27, 2018 release. And while the movie isn’t hitting theaters for some time, some big details about the film’s plot are starting to leak, one of […]
I have an admission: I like dinosaurs. A lot. It is a childhood obsession that has never subsided and it is not rare for me to be sporting a dinosaur t-shirt in public. My wife reminds me that I’m supposed to be an adult. The premise of The Good Dinosaur asks a question that I […]
Out of nowhere, Marvel dropped the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War late last night, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s pretty exposition heavy (interspersed with some excellent action), giving viewers a pretty clear idea of what the film is about. That is: the division of our favorite superheroes. But, more than that, it’s about how […]
