Here we are, one day shy of the Japanese nationwide launch of Dissidia Final Fantasy, and here we are once again with a character not many people know. Like Shantotto from a few days back, Y’shtola has the unfortunate status of being an NPC in an MMORPG, not a centralized protagonist always at the heart of a story.
That doesn’t exactly guarantee her a lot of exposure to traditional fans. First, you have to convince them to pay a subscription fee. Then you have to hope and see if they eventually find her at all in the massive online world. Finally, they have to like her and her story long enough to stick around and watch it all play out.
The point is, she’s not like Cloud, Squall, Tidus, or the rest of the Final Fantasy crew. She’s a background dweller getting her chance at the limelight for the first time. And of course, she’s a mage. Because why not? There aren’t enough swords in this game?
With her trailer published and the game launching tomorrow, that means all characters have been accounted for… except for one. Square Enix should be showing off one more, and I’m praying to the crystals and Saint Ajora that it is Ramza. He’s been confirmed to be in the game, but he’s only been mentioned so far, never shown. A surprise trailer would make all this hype worth it. I mean, just look at him! He’s so cool!
Probably will be Noctis tough… ugh. Dissidia Final Fantasy launches in Japanese arcades tomorrow. No word on a localization just yet.
