In our frenzied excitement for next year’s Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, we forget that Warner Bros. is also planning an Aquaman movie, which is set for a July 27, 2018 release. And while the movie isn’t hitting theaters for some time, some big details about the film’s plot are starting to leak, one of which could be a big spoiler.

Anytime a big rumor like this hits, it’s always a good idea to take it with a big grain of salt. After all, that Guardians 2 rumor from yesterday turned out to be a major bust, so who knows if this Aquaman report is accurate. Be that as it may, with the movie more than two years away, anything goes at this point.

According to JoBlo, Warner Bros. is aligning Aquaman to be like Marvel’s Thor movies, in which the title character will fight against his brother. In Aquaman’s case, he’ll do battle agains his half-brother, Ocean Master, which is about the most hilarious villain name I can think of. It sounds like a dopey middle-aged man who has a dad bod and wears a speedo. Sure doesn’t sound very threatening.

In the comics, Ocean Master is actually a pretty powerful character; his creators just didn’t get very creative with the name.

The screenplay for Aquaman is apparently still being written, so things can change at anytime. Many people expected Black Manta, essentially Aquaman’s version of the Joker, to be his main adversary in his solo film, but it doesn’t appear that’s the case.

Meanwhile, JoBlo said the character of Mera will be a force to be reckoned with, likening her to Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. In other words, she won’t need Aquaman to save the day, as Mera will have the wits and skill to take care of herself.

Warner Bros.’ DC cinematic universe is just getting started with Batman v Superman, which Aquaman is expected to have a cameo in. We’ll get a clearer picture once these films actually start hitting the theaters and as we approach Aquaman’s release in 2018.
