Star Wars: The Force Awakens—Mark Hamill just dropped a massive spoiler

Oh, no big deal, just actor Mark Hamill casually dropping spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on his Twitter account. It’s not like we’ve been waiting for this movie for the better part of a decade. No, just go ahead and pour out your biggest secrets so we have nothing left to hold onto come December 18. It’s fine.

Seriously though, if you want zero spoilers heading into next month’s big Star Wars release, then don’t read on. Stop. Don’t pass go. You’ve been warned. (If you’ve managed to avoid Star Wars spoilers up until this point, BRAVO. I mean that. You should get some kind of award. Tell me your secrets.)

Earlier this week, Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, Tweeted that the last time he shaved was at the end of October, “just in time for Episode VIII.” I guess that settles it: Luke Skywalker will appear in Episode VIII, beard in tow, though we don’t know in what capacity. Will he be a central character? Will he be a Force ghost? So many questions, so few answers.

Although Hamill reveals he will appear in Episode VIII, it doesn’t really give us any insight as to how he’ll feature in The Force Awakens, which is still a mystery for the most part. It’s very clear from the lack of Luke Skywalker appearing in marketing materials that he’s supposed to be kept a secret, and that just makes Hamill’s Tweet all the more disappointing for fans. Sure, learning that the franchise’s most important character will live on to fight another day isn’t the most surprising thing we’ve heard all day. But the reveal comes less than a month before the movie drops! If only he could have just kept his mouth shut for a little longer.

Hamill tried downplaying the slip-up by saying the spoiler wasn’t actually a spoiler, and that the press already ruined the surprise that he’d appear in Episode VIII. However, his “lips remain sealed” regarding one major secret, so not all is lost.
