Film Fondue: This deleted Ant-Man scene has a major Easter Egg

by Brandon Russell | November 21, 2015November 21, 2015 8:00 am PDT

The year is winding down, and it seems a lot of the big movie rumors have gone into hibernation. Many of the high profile films we’re expecting over the next 12 months have already wrapped, or are soon to wrap, which means the set photos and major leaks are drying up quick. It’s not a big deal; it just means we’re that much closer to a movie’s release.

Speaking of movie releases, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now less than a month away. We’ve come a long way since the film was actually announced, and I can’t believe the day is so close. We’ve been talking about it for what seems like years now—the first trailer debuted just about a year ago—and it’s been overdrive ever since. You won’t be able to go anywhere without hearing about Star Wars next month.

The imminent arrival of 2016 actually signals an ever bigger push toward geek movie culture. We’re going to see a ton of comic book movies next year—Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, X-Men, Deadpool—while Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is also scheduled to hit theaters next December. Wow. It’s going to be crazy.

Below are some of the juicier rumors and reports from this past week. My personal favorite is that new Star Wars TV spot, which heavily focuses on John Boyega’s Finn.

Chris Pine shows up on set of Wonder Woman

Chris Pine, otherwise known as Captain Kirk, otherwise known as the jerk in Horrible Bosses 2, is currently filming Wonder Woman, and this might be the first photo of him on set. The photo was uploaded by a co-star, but they have since been deleted. Luckily the Internet is everlasting, which is why you see the image above. They’re clearly in attire fitting for the World War II era, seemingly backing up the rumor that Wonder Woman will take place over multiple decades. [ComicBookResources]

Tomb Raider reboot gets a director

Remember the Tomb Raider movies? No? You probably don’t because they weren’t that great. But with the character back in the spotlight, of course Hollywood wants to reboot the films. And before you cry, “Why!” it sounds like a director has already been chosen, with Roar Uthaug tasked with bringing the franchise back to life. OK then, so who is going to be Lara Croft? That’s the million dollar question. [Hollywoodreporter]

Riz Ahmed’s Rogue One character revealed

It’s already full-steam ahead for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the surprising thing is is we haven’t seen very many leaks and rumors. While this isn’t the biggest bit of news, we now know one of the main character’s names. Riz Ahmed, who played Rick in Nightcrawler, is apparently playing a character named Bodhi Rook. How big of a role he’ll play, and what he’ll do is a complete mystery. [MakingStarWars]

Now You See Me 2 trailer

Turns out Harry Potter isn’t much of a magician. In the trailer for Now You See Me 2, we see a ton of mind-boggling magic, but the best part comes when Daniel Radcliffe appears at the end. Now You See Me 2 will reunite the Horseman for a major heist, with some of the first movie’s biggest stars returning. I know everyone hated the first movie, but I’m actually pretty excited.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens gets a great new TV spot

Another day, another Star Wars TV spot. This one is actually pretty notable because it shows plenty of new footage. It’s great, and you should watch it. Much of it surrounds the character Finn, who looks like he’ll be filling in as this generation’s Han Solo.

A Monster Calls trailer

We’re very much expecting next year to be dominated by sci-fi and comic book films. But what about the fantasy epics? Warcraft might be one, but A Monster Calls could wind up being the sleeper hit. Starring Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, a Toby Kebbel, the film looks like one to keep your eye on.

Ant-Man deleted scene is a big Marvel teaser

Ahead of Ant-Man’s home release, which drops on December 8, a few of the movie’s deleted scenes have hit the Internet. And in one of them, we get a pretty big teaser, though we’re not sure if it has any future implications. In one of the scenes with Darren Cross, we see the Ten Rings tattoo of the Mandarin. Since the scene was scrapped, however, it could just be something that was meant to be an Easter Egg, and nothing more.

Jessica Jones opening sequence

Undecided about Marvel’s Jessica Jones? Check out the show’s opening title sequence and see if it tickles your fancy. We’re very excited to check the show out, especially after these teasers over the past few months. Early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, so you really have reason not to give it a shot. The show should already be up on Netflix in its entirety.

X-Men: Apocalypse teaser

We know an X-Men: Apocalypse teaser is coming, and director Bryan Singer wanted to remind us that our first look is imminent. Singer posted a photo of Professor X (James McAvoy) to his Instagram, looking pretty serious with his helmet on. It’s been a long time coming, but we should finally get our first look next month.

Harrison Ford surprises fans for charity

As part of a new Omaze fundraising campaign in support of Star Wars: Force for Change, Harrison Ford surprised a handful of fans who have previously donated to the charity. Whoever donates to the new campaign will be entered for the chance to win tickets to the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere, which is taking place in Los Angeles early next month. Check out the video above for more details.
