Fallout’s Vault-Tec has a real phone number, but you’ll be on hold for a while

With the launch of Fallout 3 – not Fallout 4 – Bethesda launched a hotline as an Easter egg hidden in their game: 1-888-4-VAULT-TEC.

For Fallout 4, though, it looks like Bethesda resurrected it. Or maybe, like a vault that continued to function despite the world changing above, it never went away.

Either way, this number is your best hope of getting a spot in one of Vault-Tec’s coveted vaults before the bombs drop. The only problem is, you might be on hold for a while. Polygon gave the mysterious fallout shelter manufacturer (that definitely doesn’t do mysterious social experiments on its customers) a call and the hold time was pretty egregious.

If you’re willing to wait on hold long enough, maybe you’ll get a real person. No, probably not.

While you wait, check out our starter tips and unedited game footage. Follow our Fallout 4 tag for our ongoing coverage of this endlessly massive game.
