If you’ve been curious about Resident Evil: Revelations 2 but aren’t altogether thrilled about buying totally into it, then now is the best time to finally see what it’s about. Both Sony and Microsoft have the first chapter of Capcom’s episodic experiment available for free through their digital channels, and it’s something I recommend you at least give a shot.
It’s free, so it costs you nothing but time!
No doubt Capcom wants you to try the first chapter in order to tease you into closing out the rest of them. I have to say that the story leaves you on quite a cliff-hanger at the end of the chapter, but the gameplay doesn’t really demand that much more exploration. Maybe it eventually gets a bit deeper, but I remember it being about as shallow as the Resident Evil 4 formula could possibly get.
I can’t say for certain because I’m one of those who only made it through the first chapter and never mustered up the energy to close it out. The reviews seem solid enough to justify continuing with each chapter plateauing around the upper 70s on review aggregate sites.
Definitely check it out for free. Just don’t expect a masterpiece or a return to form for the series.
