Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow will cost $9.99 on 3DS according to Amazon

Nintendo announced last week that Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, but it cleverly forgot to mention the price. Now that Amazon has the rights to sell eShop licenses, though, the online retailer’s listing reveals that Nintendo has inflated its games with a little bit of “Square Enix tax.”

Where as most Game Boy games cost a reasonable $3.99, even the first party ones like Donkey Kong ’94, the price of all three Pokemon games has skyrocketed to $9.99 each. Better hope you get some friends to buy the game, or else you’ll be forced to cough up around $20 to trade with yourself… just like us anti-social geeks did back in the day.

My guess is that Nintendo required a little extra work to tool in the wireless multiplayer portion, and it needs to accommodate for that extra effort. Or the company knows that these are going to be super popular, and it just wants to see the dollar signs fly!

Either way, I’m still getting it, but just one. Which one you ask? I was thinking Yellow, but I remembered you can’t Gameshark in the Surfing Pikachu mini-game anymore, so I’ll be sticking with my tried and true favorite, Blue. I want my cute Vulpix back!

All three will launch for the Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 27, 2016.
