We all know that our hero and savior Commander Shepard is not going to be the face of Mass Effect: Andromeda, and it’s going to take someone with a lot of grit and swagger to replace her. Even the name “Shepard” is pushing the boundaries of being a bit difficult to match.
What’s in a name, though? Apparently, EA and BioWare have been dropping quite a few hints as to who the latest hero of the Mass Effect universe may be, and only the latest one makes the whole picture a lot more obvious. The name drop comes to us in the Mass Effect Day teaser thanks to a pair of dogs tags that appear in frame at the 44 second mark.
I couldn’t find them without the time stamp hint, but ardent fans did and they look like this.
Reddit users are claiming that the tags spell the name “Rider” or “Ryder,” and it really does look like a possibility. Their hypothesis is also backed up by the awkward choice of music used in EA and BioWare’s reveal trailer. Let’s see that one more time too…
Johnny Cash. Ghost Riders in the Sky… Mind. Blown! I remember questioning the goofy choice of song when this trailer first hit the net, but now I get it!
Well played, BioWare. Well played. Mass Effect: Andromeda is due for a release in the holiday season of 2016. And just remember, that “D” could also just as easily be a “K,” and you know what that means! Beard time!
