Vin Diesel’s days of quarter mile street races are far from over, as the actor revealed there are many more Fast & Furious movies on the way. The immensely popular action franchise is already on the hook for a few more sequels until the exploits of Dom and his crew are put to bed. And even then it will continue through spin-offs.
“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” Diesel told Variety. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
Diesel refrained from revealing what story lines he’s referring to, but there are endless possibilities. Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs is probably the likeliest candidate for a spin-off, especially considering how much people enjoyed his presence in the past two Furious movies.
I just hope it involves Dwayne Johnson ripping off a full-length arm cast. I’d also love to see Tokyo Drift 2 with Lil Bow Wow. I’d even be happy with more Race Wars. Who knows what’s on Diesel’s docket, but with a last name like that, it’s no surprise the actor feels compelled to stick by the franchise.
As of now, we can expect the eighth film in the series, with Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray set to lead the motley crew of street racers. Although, I’m not really sure we can really classify them as street racers anymore, as driving has kind of taken a backseat to the more ridiculous action over the past few movies.
Fast & Furious 8 is currently scheduled for an April 14, 2017 release.
