AT&T announced Monday that it will begin selling Samsung’s massive Galaxy View device – a tablet that’s more of a portable TV – beginning on Nov. 20. AT&T customers who also subscribe to DirecTV can get a deal on the tablet, too.
We’ve been using a Galaxy View for a bit now and find that it fills a very niche space. It offers a large 18.4-inch 1080p display that’s great for streaming movies, sports and other content, and while it runs Android, it’s not quite a productivity machine. It serves best as a streaming television set that, thanks to its handle, can be ported around the house from kitchen to living room to bedroom. With AT&T’s connection, it can even be used on the car or taken out on the road where you might not have Wi-Fi, but still have an AT&T connection.
AT&T’s unit ships with 64GB of storage, which is expandable with up to a 128GB microSD card. It’s priced at $499.99 with a two-year agreement, or $0 down and $30 a month for 20 months with an AT&T Tablet Installment plan. AT&T said that, for a limited time, DirecTV customers can activate a new smartphone on AT&T Next and get the Galaxy View for $99.99 with a new two-year agreement. Additionally, customers who sign up for a two-year DirecTV agreement can buy the device for $99.99 with a two year AT&T contract also.
