Apple’s long-rumored iPhone 6c didn’t make it into this year’s Apple lineup, but the alleged 4-inch smartphone could finally arrive in mid-2016. According to IHS analyst Kevin Wang the device will arrive next year ahead of the iPhone 7.
Beyond it’s 4-inch frame we’re still not sure what to expect from the iPhone 6c. It could feature a glossy plastic frame like the iPhone 5c, or it might simply be a smaller metal smartphone designed for anyone who’s uncomfortable with the 4.7-inch iPhone. Either way, it should also offer Touch ID and an NFC chip so you can use Apple Pay.
It’s certainly possible the iPhone 6c could launch sometime next year, though we’d take this latest prediction with a grain of salt. Kevin Wang already incorrectly claimed the device would be available in late 2015. Then again, he also accurately predicted the upgraded 12-megapixel camera on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
There’s definitely some demand for a smaller iPhone, though there may not be a big enough market for it to be worth it for Apple. Then again, a new release in mid-2016 could also help the company keep things interesting earlier in the year before it gets to the big news in the fall.
