AT&T already testing Galaxy S7 ahead of early 2016 launch, rumor claims

Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S7 series is already in testing with AT&T ahead of its release in early 2016, according to one reliable leaker. Model numbers points to a traditional Galaxy S7, and a successor to the curved Galaxy S6 edge.

“AT&T already testing both Galaxy S7 variants (SM-G930A and -G935A), adding weight to rumors of an early- to mid-1Q16 release,” writes Evan Blass (@evleaks) on Twitter. The tweet comes less than a week after it was reported that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S7 earlier next year.

When we compare those model numbers with those of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, such as the SM-G920 and the SM-G925 built for international markets, it suggests that the latter will be a Galaxy S7 edge with a curved glass display.

Samsung’s edge series has been popular this year, with similar sales figures as that of the flat model, so it’s no surprise the company is continuing to offer curved smartphones.

As for the Galaxy S7’s specifications, it’s thought one variant will be powered by the new Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm, while another will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 chipset. Both devices are also expected to pack 20-megapixel rear-facing cameras.
