December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Dec. 18, 2015, 12/18/15. That day is saved in my calendar, engrained in my brain as I’m sure for many of you. However, you won’t have to wait that long for a new way to (re)enter the world of Star Wars. The Disneyland Resort is getting ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a huge way. Not just for the Force Awakens, but for a whole new generation of Star Wars movies and various projects. Disney invited TechnoBuffalo to come check out the new offerings at Disneyland.
We already know Disney is working on Star Wars themed lands to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. However, in the mean time Disneyland is celebrating the launch of The Force Awakens by taking over much of Tomorrowland.
Star Wars Launch Bay
Star Wars Launch Bay, which sits in the heart of Tomorrowland, is a place for Star Wars fans to take in all things Star Wars. If you’ve ever wanted to meet and hang out with Darth Vader, Chewbacca, look no further. For the record, Darth Vader is quite intimidating in person. You’ve been warned. Inside Launch Bay, you can watch interviews and clips from directors, writers and crew members that have brought Star Wars to life. While you’re exploring Launch Bay, you may find yourself walking through The Cantina. THE CANTINA! You can also play the newest Star Wars games in Launch Bay and pick up some fantastic Star Wars merchandise. I will probably be spending all my money here.
My favorite part of Launch Bay were the galleries throughout, where you can view Stormtrooper armor, rebel flight helmets, Jedi lightsabers, replicas of props and costumes from The Force Awakens. Check out the gallery below for preview of what’s in store. You’ll obviously have to go to Disneyland to get the full experience.
Star Wars Path of the Jedi
Star Wars Path of the Jedi, which takes over the Tomorrowland Theater, showcases a short film compilation of all the Star Wars films, including The Force Awakens. Path of the Jedi makes me so excited for the next installment, and made me want to rush home to rewatch all the Star Wars films.
Star Tours: The Adventure Continues
Star Tours has to be one of my favorite attractions of all time, and I personally think the 3D effects on the updated Star Tours blows away any other 3D effect out of the water. It is just so well executed, especially timed with the motion sequence of the Starspeeders. In the newest edition of this attraction, the Tour introduces you to new adventures and characters from The Force Awakens. One of the novelties of Star Tours is that it generates random sequences for riders, so it is meant to be different each time you ride it. However, for a limited time all guests will be able to explore the new Force Awakens segments. This is a must for Star Wars fans.
Space Mountain gets reimagined with an impressive Star Wars overlay to the classic rollercoaster. With a new score, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, the Star Wars Fanfare syncs perfectly, along with laser effects and Rebel X-wings and Imperial TIE fighters whizzing past your rocket. This was probably one of my favorite attractions of this visit. Disney Imagineers did a great job tying in Star Wars into this classic ride and it feels like such a natural fit.
What’s a trip to the Star Wars universe without tasting the exotic foods? I had a chance to try out some of the food at Galactic Grill and it all looks and tastes great. However I’m excited to return and try the Banta Milk French Toast. Banta Milk! The food menu items come in Dark Side or Light Side varieties. I’m not afraid to admit it, I have some Dark side tendencies, but all the food was great.
The Holiday Season at Disneyland is under way and runs through January 6. Disneyland Park is also celebrating its 60th anniversary during this time, you can check out our coverage from that event here. Personally the holiday season is my favorite time of the year to visit the parks, and there will more to do this year with the addition of Star Wars Season of the Force.
Star Wars Season of the Force arrives at Tomorrowland starting November 16 and don’t forget Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters Dec. 18.
