Film Fondue: Here’s when you can see the trailer for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

by Brandon Russell | November 14, 2015November 14, 2015 8:00 am PDT

You can’t go a day without hearing about the new Star Wars movie, and this past week was no different. Not only did we get new pictures from the film’s set, but new footage, too. There’s not much we can say about The Force Awakens that hasn’t already been said. It’s coming in a little over a month, and hype couldn’t be higher. Day one viewing is going to be crazy.

But Star Wars isn’t the only big thing in entertainment right now. This past week was also filled with some big rumors, and teases for a few other Disney properties to come, including Finding Dory, which is the follow up to Finding Nemo. (We actually saw footage from Finding Dory at the Disney Celebration this summer, and it looks delightful.)

This weekend is going to be relatively quiet as far as new movie releases are concerned. That’ll give you a chance to catch up on some older movies you have yet to see, or, better yet, go and watch Master of None, which is the new show from Aziz Ansari on Netflix. I’ve watched three episodes so far, and I’m already hooked.

At the head of this post is the awesome international trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Prometheus sequels will reveal where the aliens come from

Everyone is anxious to know: Where did those pesky aliens come from in Ridley Scott’s Alien movies? The director will apparently have an explanation in his Prometheus sequels. There’s already one confirmed sequel, Alien: Paradise Lost, which will no doubt give us some of that Xenomorph backstory we all crave. Scott said Paradise Lost isn’t the only Prometheus sequel he wants to make, however, which means we won’t have a complete understanding for a while yet. [ScreenCrush]

New Star Wars TV spot recycles old footage

This isn’t quite like the international trailer, or even the recent TV spot that aired on Thursday. However, it’s Star Wars, and we can’t help but drool over every last morsel leading up to the movie’s Dec. 18 release. This TV spot doesn’t give us anything new, and instead relies on old footage. But can you blame us for getting excited? Watch it. Love it. And get pumped!

X-Men: Apocalypse teaser coming soon

Speaking of Star Wars, it looks like 20th Century Fox will use that film as a platform to promote its own movie. According to producer Simon Kinberg, who has been involved in the X-Men universe for man years now, a trailer for Apocalypse will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “It’s our first thing out there so it is somewhat of a teaser, but it’s certainly longer than a minute and it has a ton of cool stuff in it,” Kinberg said. Bradley Cooper didn’t spoil Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Fans have been up and arms over a comment actor Bradley Cooper, who voiced Rocket Raccoon, made during a recent promotional tour. Cooper mistakenly said that Thanos is the father of Star-Lord/Peter Quill, but it sounds like he just got his scenes mixed up. According to director James Gunn, Cooper most definitely did not spoil the movie, so everyone can rest easy. “I promise,” Gunn said on Twitter. [JamesGunn]

James Gunn shares Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 update

While we’re on the topic of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gunn shared a few minor updates on Twitter this week, saying Marvel is letting him direct the exact movie he wants to. That means the studio hasn’t (yet) stepped in to change anything or force the film down a particular path. Do you hear that Fantastic Four? This is how a movie should be made. “They’ve always given me full freedom,” Gunn said about Marvel. “We have an amazing relationship.” [JamesGunn]

Adam McKay might help write Ant-Man 2 script

Little known fact: Adam McKay, best known for directing the Anchorman movies and other big comedies, helped pen the first Ant-Man movie, and could return for the sequel. McKay mostly danced around the prospect of returning, though he did say he had been talking to Paul Rudd about it, who co-wrote the script along with McKay. Ant-Man and the Wasp is still a few years away, which means McKay and Rudd have plenty of time to hammer out another gem. [HollywoodReporter]

Star Wars

Did this Star Wars toy reveal a spoiler?

Disney Infinity’s Twitter account this week shared a picture of a “Resistance Tactical Strike,” possibly confirming a rumor surrounding The Force Awakens. It’s never wise to jump to conclusions in instances like this, but it sure looks like the Resistance has its own weapon of mass destruction. Is that why the First Order and the Resistance are at war? We don’t know, but it’s a very interesting tidbit to say the least. [DisneyInfinity]

The Good Dinosaur gets a pair of new clips

A few new clips for The Good Dinosaur have been released, and they’re incredibly charming. The clips focus on a few of the dinosaurs Arlo will come across during his travels, including a trio of T-Rexes, one of which is being voiced Sam Elliott. I know people are skeptical of The Good Dinosaur, especially following Inside Out. But it looks absolutely wonderful, and these new clips further reflect the movie’s overflowing charm.

Peyton Reed talks about The Wasp

In an interview with MTV, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed spoke about the importance of The Wasp, who he said was always a part of his plans.

“Wasp came on pretty early on in the comics in the ‘60s and you really thought of [her and Ant-Man] as a partnership, a romantic partnership as well as a hero team,” Reed said. “It’s going to be fun to play around with all the aspect of that in this movie.” [MTV]

SNOWPIERCER_1

Snowpiercer being adapted for TV

Did you ever see Snowpiercer, a 2013 film directed by Bong Joon Ho? Probably not, but you should. It’s become a cult hit in the years since its release, and now it’s being considered for TV. The movie starred Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton, and was set in a future world where the last remaining people exist on a train that travels around the globe. You can check the movie out on Netflix if you have yet to see it to see what the fuss is all about. [HollywoodReporter]

Suicide Squad rating confirmed as PG-13

Producer Charles Roven has confirmed that Suicide Squad was made with the intention of aiming for a PG-13 rating. Despite the film’s grittier look and more mature content, Roven said films in the DC universe were always going to be PG-13, not R-rated like Deadpool will be over at 20th Century Fox. That’s actually a pretty big deal given David Ayer’s portfolio of work, which is typically meant for much more mature audiences. [Collider]
